Dan has spent the past 25 years helping adolescents (and their families) with the work of growing into healthy, happy adults. His diverse background includes teaching high school, running a summer camp, school counseling, and directing September High School.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Dan has brought these experiences into his clinical work. He is committed to the idea that there is hope for your teen and relief for your family.

Central to my psychotherapy practice is my passion for serving children, teens, families, and women. While my services include traditional methods such as Cognitive Behavioral techniques and psychoanalysis, I believe the most effective modality for change is often through interacting with animals and nature.

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy: Horses offer unconditional support in working through relationship patterns and emotional difficulties. You, your child, or your family, will be guided to improve coping mechanisms, develop healthy attachments, and to live an empowered life.

Animal assisted therapy: Working with either my animals or your own family pets has proven to be instrumental in helping those who suffer from depression or anxiety or who have experienced a loss due to divorce, illness, or trauma.

Teen therapy and Mentoring: Throughout my 15 year career working with teens, I have received training in treating sexual trauma, adoption and attachment, as well as effectively serving persons on the Autism spectrum. I discovered that the best way to create permanent change for your child is with out-of-the-box, or more specifically, out-of-the-office methods. Because adolescents often have difficulty in a traditional office setting, they feel more open to therapy when in their community environment. I am available to pick your child up from school, to meet in a park, or in your home. Some examples of mentoring activities are hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, or simply going for coffee. Whether I am helping them job hunt or accompanying them to a meeting with their school counselor, I will be working intensively to help your teen resolve their difficulties. Finally, I believe that parent education and involvement are integral components for an effective treatment plan.

I work primarily with adults ages 20–60 who are longing for deeper connection — to themselves, their relationships, and the natural world. Many of the people who find me are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, major life transitions, or simply a quiet sense that something inside feels disconnected or untended.

Nature is not just a backdrop in my work — it is a partner in the process. I offer outdoor therapy sessions for those who feel called to step outside the traditional office setting. Walking beside a river, sitting beneath trees, or feeling the steadiness of the earth beneath us can create a kind of spaciousness that supports clarity, grounding, and authentic change. I also offer in-person office sessions and telehealth, allowing us to choose the setting that best fits your needs.

While my practice is centered on adults, I also work with children ages 0–10 and support parents around communication and relational skills. With children, I offer 45-minute Synergetic Play Therapy sessions in my office or outdoors. Later in the week, I connect with parents or caregivers for a 15-minute phone consultation to explore how the themes from therapy can be integrated at home. This approach allows meaningful change to ripple through the whole family system while honoring each member’s individual process.

Many people are surprised that I work with both children and adults. I value this range deeply. Different developmental stages bring different challenges and gifts — and witnessing the full spectrum of growth enriches my work. My work with children complements my work with adults, because no matter our age, parts of us can still feel small, tender, or young. I meet both populations with warmth, humor, and grounded directness.

    Specialty Treatment Areas

    • Depression (including a subtle sense that something feels missing)
    • Anxiety (chronic anxiety and anxiety related to specific events)
    • Trauma and overwhelm
    • Challenging transitions (relationships, work, grief, identity shifts)
    • Women’s issues (motherhood, fertility, systemic pressures)
    • Gender identity support (trans, nonbinary, and gender-diverse clients)
    • Parenting difficulties (with lived understanding — I’m a parent of two)

    How I Work

It is my soul’s work to be a creative therapist. While talking is essential in therapy, it is not the only doorway. I integrate mindfulness, body awareness, EMDR, Hokomi, Gestalt, experiential approaches, and nature-based practices to help clients access their own deeper wisdom. I may incorporate movement, art, humor, somatic awareness, or time outdoors when it serves the work.

My goal is for clients to leave sessions feeling more centered — more connected to their inner steadiness and their belonging in this world.

    Together, We Can Work On:

    • Finding the gifts within your struggles
    • Staying grounded in anxiety-producing environments
    • Exploring how your past influences your present
    • Creating healthy, sustainable choices that support growth
    • Identifying relationship patterns
    • Revitalizing you

    Background

I earned my master’s degree in Transpersonal Psychology with a concentration in Wilderness Therapy from Naropa University in 2010. Since then, I have completed trainings in Hakomi, Gestalt, grief work, trauma, body-focused healing, Nonviolent Communication, somatic practices, heart-centered meditation, Synergetic Play Therapy, EMDR, and mother–daughter relationships.

My professional experience includes therapeutic and supportive roles with Women’s Wilderness Institute, Judy’s House, Outward Bound, preschools, and university settings.

Victoria Olson is a therapist, clinical interventionist, and coach in Boulder, CO with more than 30 years of experience walking alongside adults, families, and young adults through some of the most challenging and meaningful moments of their lives. Having worked in residential treatment, youth shelters, transitional living programs, and private practice, everything Victoria has learned within those settings lives in the way she shows up for her clients. Real change happens inside a real relationship. Before anything else, Victoria focuses on building a connection with clients that feels safe, honest, and genuinely supportive.

Educational Background: Victoria has a Master of Arts in Counseling from Adams State University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC), Love First Clinical Interventionist, and Therapeutic Coach. Victoria brings her training in Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, alongside three decades of lived clinical experience into every session.

Specialty Areas: Individual therapy, therapeutic coaching, substance use and addiction, recovery and sobriety, clinical interventions, family coaching, parent coaching, depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationships, personal growth, and identity.

      My Practice

Individual Therapy: Sometimes life brings us to a place where we need more than suggestions, we need a space to slow down, go deeper, and understand ourselves more fully. I work with adults and young adults navigating depression, anxiety, grief, relationship pain, and the quieter struggles that are harder to name. I am also drawn to working with people who are not in crisis but feel an ache for something more, more meaning, more clarity, a stronger sense of who they are and what they want their life to look like. My approach is warm, collaborative, and rooted in a genuine belief in your capacity to grow.

Therapeutic Coaching: For those who want focused, forward-moving support outside of traditional therapy, therapeutic coaching offers a powerful alternative. Drawing on my clinical background, we work together on your specific goals, building skills, shifting patterns, expanding self-awareness, and creating real momentum in your life. This is practical, relational work guided by the same care and depth I bring to the therapy room, and it can be an especially good fit for people in life transitions, navigating major decisions, or simply ready to grow.

Family and Parent Coaching:Families can get stuck in cycles that exhaust everyone, especially when a struggling family member, conflict, or difficult transition is central. I work with parents and families to improve communication, deepen connection, and build new ways of relating that actually work. This is not about blame or fixing anyone; it is about helping every person in the system find their footing so the whole family can move forward together.

Recovery and Sobriety Coaching: I have spent much of my career working with individuals and families affected by substance use, and it remains some of the most meaningful work I do. I work from a biopsychosocial model, meaning we look at the whole picture, not just the substance, but the feelings, experiences, and patterns underneath it. Whether you are newly sober, thinking about making a change, or working to protect a recovery you have already built, I will be with you in it.

Clinical Interventions: When a family watches someone they love struggle with addiction or destructive behavior and feels helpless, intervention can open a door in away that nothing else has previously. I work with families to plan and carry out compassionate, carefully structured Love First Interventions, guided by clinical experience and deep respect for everyone involved. This is sensitive work, and I will be with your family every step of the way.

Adult Individual Therapy: I am dedicated to working with people who want to get at the roots of their emotional distress and personal suffering. Building a collaborative relationship in therapy is the single most important factor in therapeutic success. This relationship will be the keystone for facilitating your personal growth and understanding of yourself not just intellectually, but also emotionally. Over time, an internalized healing space forms where you can recover access to parts of your true self. Speaking freely without unnecessary self-censorship may be simple, but it is not easy. I encourage you to try.

Adolescent Individual Therapy: In my work with adolescents, I focus on helping them build the critical life skill of expressing their thoughts and feelings in words rather than actions. I do this by building a supportive therapeutic relationship where they feel safe to explore what’s really going on inside. In our work, they will learn to name and understand their emotions more clearly, strengthening their sense of self and helping them navigate the challenges of growing up.

Group Therapy: A relational psychoanalytic process group can be an enlivening, transformative experience that supports you in forming the relationships and sense of self that you long for. In this group, you will have opportunities to explore relational patterns as they emerge in the here and now. You can also take risks and try new ways of connecting with yourself and others.

My Approach: My practice is located in Boulder, CO, and online. I am psychoanalytically trained through the Colorado Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies, the New York Center for the Advancement of Group Studies, and the Chicago Institute for Clinical Social Work. My treatment approach is informed by relational and classical psychoanalysis, interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory, somatic psychology, contemplative psychotherapy, and existential philosophy.
