Do you or a loved one feel depressed and anxious for no apparent reason? Is it difficult to get out of bed in the mornings and get excited about things you used to love doing? Do you feel all alone and as though nobody understands your struggles? Or do you feel awkward in social situations and tend to overthink things and assume the worst? If any or all of these apply to you, you may be struggling with depression and anxiety.
As a Stanford trained psychologist, I treat children, adolescents and adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, and disordered eating habits. I will help you explore your inner world and create awareness by providing compassionate guidance. Through my ability to read between the lines, I can see you and help you better understand yourself. My approach to therapy is both insight-oriented and skill-based. As a researcher and clinician, I am able to apply the most up-to-date evidence-based treatments to help you find a way back to a fulfilling and satisfying life. We will work through subconscious barriers and challenges that may interfere with your joy in life, growth, and path to healing.
I also specialize in working with individuals and their family members who suffer from serious medical conditions. Let’s work together through the emotional struggles associated with the diagnosis of a physical illness. Emotional difficulties can appear at any stage in the treatment process and sometimes only surface once all treatments are completed. I will help you better cope with anxiety and worries associated with your medical condition and help you make sense of your condition productively to find your way back to a fulfilling life. I have extensive experience working with oncology patients and their family members. I also offer caregiver support. Furthermore, I help children and adolescents cope with the physical illness of a parent and I work with loss and grief following the passing of a parent, grandparent, sibling, child, friend or spouse.
LEGACY WORK (DIGNITY THERAPY):
Imagine for a moment you are nearing the end of your life. There is no way of knowing when this might be. You could be in the prime of life or in your twilight years. Nevertheless, try to imagine what would determine the quality of your life and your legacy. Would you want to leave a message to your children or grandchildren or perhaps you are a child and would like for your mother or grandfather to leave a narrative document about their life’s journey for you and your children. If any of this is true, Dignity Therapy might be right for you. Dignity therapy is a short 3 session therapy program which involves asking questions about your life’s history and work. We will put in words your ultimate legacy and what you want to pass on to your (grand)children. We will craft a memoir based on the meaning and purposes of your life. Your story will be made into a bound book which can be shared with loved ones. Dignity Therapy is designed for patients who are facing a life-threatening illness, seniors who would like to reflect over their lives and help them with challenges that may accompany the process of aging, and anybody else who enjoys giving thought to their life’s legacy, discuss values and lessons learned, and those who would like to leave a message for loved ones in a narrative document.
PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT SERVICES:
I also provide a variety of assessment services, including psychological/psychodiagnostic evaluations for legal proceedings, adoption evaluations, and neurocognitive assessments.
With 19 publications, I am an expert in psychometric methodology and theory. I conduct psychological evaluations for adults and adolescents to help inform treatment or for legal purposes, such as custody proceedings. I offer cognitive testing services before and after medical interventions, such as prior to bariatric surgery or post organ transplant or chemotherapy and I conduct specific learning disability assessments.
I pride myself in my ability to conduct thorough assessments of you as an individual, where I systematically examine the information gathered from an assessment and weave it into a comprehensive and complete picture of your competencies, struggles, and capabilities. Recommendations are based on all the assessment results and on discussions with peers, family, yourself and others who may be able to shed light on you as a complex, unique individual. This person-centered, thorough and caring approach to testing, coupled with my expertise in psychometric and measurement, helps me understand you in an objective and accurate manner with focus on your individual strengths. The results of the tests will help inform and develop a treatment plan to facilitate success in your life. Visit my website for more details: psychologycolorado.com
